2023 Off-Season Recap

As a FIRST Robotics Competition team, we do more than just build robots. Questionable Engineering has been consistent in participating in community outreach events to spread the message of FIRST. In 2023, Questionable Engineering went to over thirteen outreach events within Hudson County. 

We had team members volunteer at the Liberty Science Center for the FIRST Lego League Off-Season event while some members were doing a robot demonstration by the entrance of the building. The team was invited back to LSC for their Bits Bytes and Bots Weekend in December. We had the entirety of the second floor showcasing our 2023 robot, kids playing soccer matches with XRP robots, and driving around Oscar, the trash can robot. The event was a massive success! Kids of all ages were interested in driving Oscar and the XRP robots. 

The team attended local street fairs, like the All About Downtown Street Fair and Hoboken Arts and Music Festival to connect with members of the community and allow people to drive the Oscar, the trash can robot. The team also attended holiday-relevant events like the Jersey City Tree Lighting and Zombie Opera with Oscar. During the Zombie Opera, Oscar was giving out candy to children and letting kids drive the robot. 

To give back to the community, Questionable Engineering volunteered at Jersey City Repair Cafe. Members of the community can come and get their broken items fixed by volunteers. Students on the team repaired clocks, jewelry, bikes, and sewing machines.

Lastly, we competed at two off-season events that we competed in as rookies! It was great to be back at RVSTS and Brunswick Eruption with our robot to compete. Overall, the events were an incredible opportunity for new members to learn the mechanics and format of a competition. We thoroughly enjoyed attending and meeting all the other teams! 

It has been such an incredible year for us in our rookie year. We cannot wait to see what is in store for us in the 2024 season and off-season!
