Kickoff

January 6th marked the start of the 2024 FIRST Robotics Competition season! Questionable Engineering attended the Kickoff event at Mount Olive High School hosted by Team 11, MORT. This marked our second year as a FIRST Robotics Competition team.  We connected with team members of MORT, MORT Beta, and Aperture. Together, we reflected on the 2023 season and built up excitement for the new season.

After the new game was announced, we discussed how to approach brainstorming and building for the season by collaborating with members from other teams, as well as discussing and presenting different aspects of the manual. We cannot wait to see what is in store for the team for the rest of the season! Thank you Team 11 for providing an exciting start to the season!

The Start of Build Season

The first week of the season is absolutely critical to set the tone for the rest of the 2024 season. Our first week was spent focusing on forming a strategy on how to play the game. We all discussed what we want to prioritize scoring-wise and what the different mechanisms would be. Everyone, no matter their department, was encouraged to brainstorm and discuss their ideas during our team meetings.

After agreeing upon a general consensus on our strategy, we started to prototype parts of the robot by utilizing cardboard and CAD. Going through the engineering design process proved that the possibilities for great designs are endless. If we’ve learned anything from our first season, it’s that the prototyping phase is never over!
