Montclair Art Museum Winter Art Market

On December 1st, we went to the Montclair Art Museum for their monthly Free First Thursdays: Winter Art Market vendor sale! The MAM is a museum in Montclair, New Jersey committed to inspiring and engaging the diverse community through different exhibitions, programs, and art. Some members of our team have been working very hard on designing red panda wall mounts and a dog made out of recycled cardboard. These models were designed in CAD, then printed on a laser printer. The STEM kits are packed with instructions so kids can fully build them and get a taste of engineering! 10% of the proceeds from the red panda wall mount are going to the World Wildlife Fund to help the endangered red panda. Additionally, 10% of the money made from the dog is going to ASPCA to prevent animal cruelty.

We were lucky enough to get a table at the vendor sale and a space to show our off-season robot that we’ve been working on. Our main sale was the STEM kits, overall we sold 10 STEM kits at the event! It was great being able to sell the kits but connecting with the community and meeting with all the different vendors and attendees at the event was the best part. We even stumbled across a member of another FRC team, Team 3204, the Steampunk Penguins!

Having our robot there rendered more people interested in the First Robotics Competition and what we do. We talked to teachers, parents, and kids about FRC and Questionable Engineering. We met some people who were already familiar with FRC, and it was great to talk to them about their previous experiences. As a rookie team, we are always seeking to learn from more experienced teams; we love speaking to and learning from teams! Overall, we had a great time at the event and appreciated the experience.
